Bruno Fernandes has revealed he was stopped from going into the dressing room immediately after Manchester United’s 3-3 draw with Galatasaray to undergo doping control procedures. Several United players left the field shaking their heads after twice seeing a two-goal lead squandered against Galatasaray.
Alejandro Garnacho and Fernandes had put United in the ascendency in the first half with the latter scoring a thunderous strike from 30 yards out. But Galatasaray got back into the game when Andre Onana was caught out by a Hakim Ziyech free-kick.
United appeared to have the game wrapped up in the second half when Scott McTominay finished well at the front post. However, Onana was at fault again in letting Galatasaray back into the match with another disastrous error from a Ziyech free-kick.
That gave the hosts all the momentum as they soon equalised through Kerem Akturkoglu and neither team was able to find a winner in the closing stages.
United ideally needed all three points from the match as qualification for the knockout phase is now out of their hands. There was a noticeably glum atmosphere in the United squad as they exited the pitch to retire to the dressing room.
But Fernandes was unable to explain the mood in the changing room as he was whisked away by anti-doping officials. He told TNT Sports: “I couldn’t go to the dressing room because of doping control so I don’t know [what the mood was like].”
