Ranking which crisis club is in a bigger state of calamity – Man Utd or Chelsea

Manchester United and Chelsea is the battle of managers who are currently feeling the heat… or should be.

How Mauricio Pochettino is getting away with it is beyond any sane person’s logic. The Blues have won just five Premier League games having spent the equivalent of the GDP of a nation.

But anyways, Pochettino’s side may win at Old Trafford which will bring about claims that he’s cracked it at Chelsea. Yet Roy Hodgson could mastermind a win at Old Trafford these days so it’s hardly a sign of anything other than United are poor.

Erik ten Hag has won more trophies in England in 18 months than Pochettino has won in over six years. But the Dutchman knows his head is also on the block after a rubbish start to the season.

Transfers

Man Utd

Rasmus Hojlund will be a success in the future but for now looks a lot at £60m+ while Mason Mount has been fit as often as a full moon so far.

While Andre Onana is a calamity keeper waiting to throw another one in and Sofyan Amrabat is now behind 18-year-old Kobbie Mainoo in the pecking order. Not a great summer. 2/10

Chelsea

It’s hard to rate Chelsea’s transfers because of the revolving door policy now at Stamford Bridge. Cole Palmer looks a shrewd purchase while Nicolas Jackson has potential.

Quite why they signed Robert Sanchez remains a mystery. Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia have yet to show what they can do. Other signings have been injured. 4/10

Player performances

Man Utd

Awful in most games, pitiful in others. Some bright sparks of potential but then errors wreck them. Too many defeats, not enough wins. It’s been poor. Yet somehow still in touching distance of top four. 2/10

Chelsea

Don’t win enough games, like a draw and there is talk that they play well but don’t finish games off. Unfortunately finishing games off is more important than just playing well. 2/10

Manager

Man Utd

Has enough credit in the bank from last season to be given plenty of time to turn it around. What’s the point of change? Anthony Martial has now seen off six managers if you include interims and he doesn’t get the boot so why should a manager after a bad few months?

Still if United lose to Chelsea, Bayern Munich and Liverpool in three of their next four games then there will be little chance of a way back for Ten Hag, rightly or wrongly. 4/10

Chelsea

Mauricio Pochettino must watch out for United’s results as soon as he gets back in from Stamford Bridge. Because the chaos at Old Trafford is keeping him out of the spotlight.

Not many Chelsea managers get away with such a bad start but he’s escaped with little criticism. Be interesting to see how long that lasts if they don’t start improving. 3/10

Mood around the club

Man Utd

Banning journalists is never a good sign and rumours of discontent among the players may be exaggerated but there’s definitely a concern growing among the fans about the squad.

Still the injection of INEOS may bring about some uplift but it’s results that are needed and December looks ominous. 2/10

Chelsea

Still seems positive as a lot of new players and a new manager but won’t be long until their fans are singing about bringing back Roman Abramovich again if they don’t rise up the table. 6/10‌

Future prospects

Man Utd

Weirdly believe they’ll be in a better place if they stick with Ten Hag but think the club may crumble to outside noise if the doesn’t win most the games in December then they’ll be back to an interim manager and a squad of players thinking they can do what they like because the boss isn’t hanging around.

Still got some really good young players, Mainoo and Alejandro Garnacho the standouts. 6/10

Chelsea

Impossible to tell given Pochettino is just in the job a few months. Could go either way. 5/10.
