Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya had a moment to forget in his side’s Champions League clash with Lens after gifting the host a crucial equalising goal.

The Gunners took the lead in their Champions League group stage clash through Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus’ strike in the 13th minute of the match.

However, the lead for Mikel Arteta’s side was short-lived with the hosts hitting back in the 25th minute thanks to a curling effort from Adrien Thomasson.

The opportunity stemmed from an error by the Gunners’ Spanish goalkeeper, who looked to fire a pass out to full-back Takehiro Tomiyasu.

However, the effort was intercepted by Lens and they countered in style, quickly firing the ball up to forward Elye Wahi.

The striker did well to control the ball and lay it off to Thomasson, who unleashed a curling effort into the top corner of the net.

There’s been much debate in recent weeks over Arteta’s decision to rotate his goalkeepers – with Aaron Ramsdale taking on a lesser role than he did last season.

Arteta’s decision has caused a stir with some praising the Arsenal manager’s ruthless move, while others believe Ramsdale has been unfairly treated.

Arteta has suggested he could even opt to change goalkeepers during the game and will make a decision on a game by game basis.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper David Seaman has questioned the decision from the Gunners boss and insisted he’s ‘puzzled’ by the treatment of Ramsdale.

Speaking exclusively to Mail Sport, the former goalkeeper said: ‘What he’s doing is what he spoke about. He’s making sure they all get game time. We’ll have to wait and see how that pans out.

‘Back in my day, I don’t know whether I would’ve liked that as much. I’m sure [Peter] Schmeichel wouldn’t have liked it either!

‘But it was different back then, that was 20 years ago. The game’s changed and Mikel’s trying something new.

‘Will it work out? I don’t know if I’m honest. I’m still puzzled as to why Aaron was left on the bench.’
