Trent Alexander-Arnold contract connects star with Bellingham in Liverpool boost

England missed Jude Bellingham during the recent international break | Football Digest

Trent Alexander-Arnold has put pen to paper on a mammoth £26million boot deal with Adidas to become one of their three main pin-up stars for the future alongside Pedri and Jude Bellingham. The contractual connection between Alexander-Arnold and Bellingham could serve as a massive boost for Liverpool, who were desperate to sign the English midfielder last summer.

In the end, he chose to make the switch to Real Madrid and has hit the ground running at the Santiago Bernabeu with 15 goals and 4 assists from his first 16 appearances in the Spanish capital. But having two of their brightest athletes playing for the same club would be great for Adidas’ marketing so there is a chance they could give Liverpool a helping hand in a future transfer.

We have seen in the past how big sponsors have attempted to help teams get blockbuster deals over the line. The most prominent example is when Nike reportedly met with Manchester United to assist in a bid to sign Cristiano Ronaldo in 2013.

According to the Sun at the time, Red Devils executives held a meeting to extend their sponsorship deal with the sportswear giants while they also discussed the possibility of Nike funding an offer to entice Ronaldo away from Real Madrid, four years after he had left Old Trafford for Los Blancos.

Nothing came of it with Ronaldo choosing to stay put but there is a chance Adidas could do better in persuading Bellingham to move to Anfield. Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher would certainly approve of the transfer.

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate earlier this year, Carragher insisted Bellingham would be the “perfect fit” for Jurgen Klopp’s side. “Jude Bellingham would be the perfect fit, but he would be a lot of money,” he said.

“When Liverpool have spent big money in the past, it’s been on the goalkeeper [Alisson Becker] and Virgil van Dijk, who were bought in at great age profiles.

“Signing Jude Bellingham would be for a lot of money, but it would get to two years down the line and people would see it as a bargain. At his age, you’d have him for at least five seasons before he’d move on, which is a great investment for the club.”
